TVM anniversary

So... TVM has entered it's 4th year. Blog viewership certainly had its ups and downs. The relaunch of my blog as The Visual Medium was sparked by my urge to break out of just blogging about games and technology. This urge did not just suddenly out of nowhere though. It was FLCL (which I reviewed exactly 3 years ago) that made me see anime in a different light. I was finally cared about the people behind it: the voices, the animators, the directors. This level of obsession with anime became on-par with my gaming obsession (retro games, music and story in games, gaming technology, etc...), so why not blog about it too? Here I am 3 years later, having attended numerous anime conventions and events, and just recently coming back from what was almost a perfect otaku's dream trip to Japan.

Thanks to my blog readers. As long as there is one of you out there, I'll continue to write. My passion for anime and gaming has only grown in the last few years, and will continue to grow.

Blog Status 06/12/2012

I've been blogging for more than 6 years, having started Game n Tech in Sep 2006. It was a slow start, averaging 2 posts a month and then slowing down to 1 a month in 2008, and finally taking a one year break in 2009. In 2010, I came back and eventually renamed the blog to The Visual Medium. I think my passion for blogging was reignited by reading a lot of anime blogs and wanting my own platform to express my thoughts. In fact, one of my first posts on TVM was a review of FLCL, a show that made me excited about anime again.

Blog Status Update: Going Indie

I have not posted any gaming related articles for quite a long time, so I decided to concentrate on that topic for the next week or so.

I bought a bunch of indie gaming packs on Steam a few days ago during their Black Friday sales and thought it would be interesting to blog a bit about indie games. Not many of my friends (even the gamers) know much about Jonathan Blow, Jenova Chen or Ian Bogost. It's these people that drive the industry forward, bringing new ideas to the table and challenging our perception of games as more than just hobbies or past times. Some might laugh at the idea of games as art, but some indie developers are dedicated to finding that link between games and art. A lofty goal indeed.

Blog status update

I'm sort of back to blogging, due to the AFA fever. Decided to switch back to blogger default templates as the javascript in the previous one wasn't working. Will work on a better-looking blog after exams are over. For now, expect some AFA coverage either over the weekend or Monday/Tuesday night.

Update: AFA X coverage and related articles will continue till 20th November. Thereafter, The Disappearance of TVM Bloggers will be screened.
