Anime Weekly 26/06/13 (?)

I've been mostly away from my home computer due to riajuu stuff. Next week will probably be a short one as I get busier... Anime Weekly will most likely take a break until end of July after that as I wait for all the new shows to enter their 2nd week. In the meantime, I will hopefully find some time to write reviews...

Anyway, on to this week's shows!

Anime Weekly 19/06/13

Oregairu surprised me this week by having Hachiman finally moving forward with Yui (or at least considering it). I absolutely love subtle, unexpected moments of romance like this! Another example of this would be in Seitokai Yakuindomo, though admittedly that was more unexpected due to its genre. I think it would have been perfect if they just removed that one line of internal monologue... there's no need to spell things out like that when Hachiman's hesitation and expression said it all! Hataraku's stomach troubles continue this week and I can't help but shake the feeling that it would play into the larger plot so far. If not, that joke is being dragged out way too long.

Anime Weekly 12/06/13

Let's get the bad things out of the way first. Suisei no Gargantia is still weak. Last week wasn't very impressive, but I was hoping for some kind of big double twist to really drive it home this week. Didn't happen. Henneko was an absolute mess. I gave it some praise last week but the revelation this week was just utterly terrible! It's one thing to try and make an interesting and complex solution, but they just turned it into a mess. (P.S. Would have liked to hear Ishihara Kaori's attempt at doing a voice somewhere in between Azusa's and the Stony Cat's) Hataraku Maou-sama has lost a lot of its bite in the last few episodes. After Lucifer joined the gang, things just don't feel the same any more. BTW in the above image Suzuno is dressed in a traditional diving suit for catching seafood. Even many of the young people in Japan don't know about this, I wonder how many foreigners would. I just happened to watch a documentary on them recently ^.^. Lastly, Shingeki no Kyojin focused on Armin this week and it felt rather cheesy and dragged out. It tries to be a Death Note but isn't as sharp.

Anime Weekly 05/06/13

Opps! This is slightly late, but I wanted to take a minute to gather my thoughts on Makoto Shinkai's Kotonoha no Niwa for the end of this post. Anyway, on to the 2nd instalment of Anime Weekly.

I find it hard to say anything about Hataraku Maou-sama!, hayate cuties, and oregairu. They are all good, but not exciting enough. I guess the best way to describe it, is that they are doing well in their respective genres, but not doing anything out of the ordinary. With that said, Touyama Nao (voice of Chiho from hataraku maou-sama, and Yuigahama from oregairu) is starting to catch my attention. This 21-year-old is pretty good. She is not exactly new though, having had quite a number of roles under her belt already, but still eligible for the Best Debut award. I think all she needs now is a huge, impactful role.

Anime Weekly 29/05/13

So, I'm starting this up again. Every Wednesdays at 10pm! We'll see how long I last this time... For this weekly feature revival, I'll touch upon a few stuff that interested me this week and then go on to focus on one particular topic if I have one to write about. Anyway, onwards to the first of many weekly posts!

Anime of Fall 2012 (Week 2)

Sorry for this late post! Blogger's photo upload and Chrome doesn't play well... Anyway, I'll be dropping some shows and avoiding some new shows because, well, they just don't interest me. This week is absolutely PACKED. Last week was bad enough, and I had a few shows that I didn't manage to catch, but this week adds more new shows into the mix! I'll have to start culling them soon, but its such a pity... quite a lot of good stuff this season!

14/10 Update: Catching up with a whole bunch of shows, but I still have 6 more in the buffer. I'm enjoying it, but the stress from all my project deadlines is making this a horrible time to be indulging...

Anime of Fall 2012 (Week 1)

Alright I'm giving this one more shot. Each episode I watch will get a 5 minute screenshot and review. I'll just post it on Tuesday morning and then update it throughout the week.

Anime Weekly 11

Another week, another crazy episode of Nichojou. Didn't have time to watch any anime until the weekend, so this post will be a bit later than usual. Pleasantly surprised to see that this week was better than the last few weeks for most of these shows. Or perhaps it's just that I'm just hungry for some entertainment after a long, stressful week.

Anime Weekly 10

I've decided to stop blogging Ao no Exorcist, and perhaps even stop watching it if I don't have the time. C and Deadman Wonderland might be continued next week. Seems like I'm going through Anime burnout and just can't get myself to watch most of them. The only ones I was excited to watch this week was Hanasaku Iroha, Nichijou, Steins;Gate, AnoHana, and Denpa Onna. 5 series is a decent amount to blog so... onward!

Madoka's final 2 episodes were shown last week, and what an EPIC ending that was. I almost mistook it for a Gainax series, except less crazy. Also, a lot of the Spring shows have been quite good, so I'll have a hard time reducing them to a bloggable amount (3 to 5?)... but I'll try anyway!

This week there was no Madoka either. Wandering Son's schedule was not affected by the earthquake, and Star Driver came back after a 1 week break, so this week I'll cover Star Driver 23, 24 and the rest of Wandering Son. Some minor spoilers inside for Star Driver which I don't think would really affect your enjoyment of the series anyway.
