The DSLR that beats Professional Video Cameras

Behold! The Canon EOS 5D Mark II!

Made to replace the EOS 5D, this camera shoots at 21MP, ISO ranges from 100 to 6400, and is priced at US$2700 (body only).

It has Live View, the new Digic 4 processor, blah blah blah...

What's interesting is its ability to shoot Full 1080p HD video at 30 fps. During normal daytime shooting, it looks stunning. Quality-wise, you're getting the same stuff that comes out of video cameras that cost S$4,000 - S$10,000. However, in low light shooting, this camera simply blows the competition away! And its not even meant to compete with them!

Due to its superior processor and highly sensitive CMOS sensors, it even outperforms Canon's own professional HD camcorders that cost upwards of S$10k. One can't help but wonder what would happen if Canon's camcorder research team worked with the DSLR team...

Last month, professional photographer Vincent Laforet got his hands on the EOS 5D Mark II for testing (he had very good contacts within Canon). Canon merely let him borrow the camera and didn't give him any money or require him to do anything with it. But he was so impressed with the camera that he decided to sink in US$5000 and 2 nights of shooting to produce a demo video. Impressive feat, considering that he had about 2.5 days to plan and shoot everything over a wet weekend. Hit the links if you wish to find out more or see the video.
