HOT or NOT

The Nintendo Wii (official import by Maxsoft) has sold 2000 units within its first 2 days! Hot!

PLAY! Concert tickets SOLD OUT! Hot!

What's not so hot is this article that GameAxis posted.
Oh yeah. You read that right. In Acclaim's new DANCE! online game, players are able to choose a multitude of skin types...meaning it's white, white, whiter or whiter. Yes, Acclaim have gone bonkers and are making it so if you're black (no word on how much you have to pay to be Asian) and you want your in-game avatar to be a realistic representation of your skin color, you have to earn the right to do so.

Hmmm...maybe Acclaim's going to rename their company to AKKKlaim next?

Here are some choice quotes from the ongoing debate going on at the Acclaim Forums:

Black is an EXTRA feature. It makes your person look unique, so that is an EXTRA feature. Therefore, you having to PAY for it. (Or ask a friend to pay for it).

...the default skin tone we have in DANCE! is white. If you want something extra your going to have to pay. Nothing in life is free.

Thankfully the game's still in Open Beta, which leaves Acclaim a lot of room to bend over backwards to appease the lynch mob that's fast approaching. It's still stupid of them to overlook such a teeeeeeny but sensitive issue though.

Though the comment was made by a forum moderator, the editors over at GameAxis should have checked their sources thoroughly, because if they did, they would have found out that it costs only 1 (ONE) point to be black, and that point can be earned easily through play. I figure it would take...... 5 minutes to acquire that one point? While it was an insensitive decision to feature black as an extra option to be earned, GameAxis shouldn't have jumped on it the way they did. At least make sure your information is accurate or update it when new information arrives.

Starcraft 2. HOT.
