Fall 2012 Anime
The new season is upon us! While this season had a few gems (Hyouka and Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita) it was mostly dull, so I'm really excited to see a lot of interesting stuff announced for the next season. It starts next month! Below I've listed a few of the shows I'm really excited for and why you should watch them.
Kyousogiga
Toei Animation, the long-time animation powerhouse, is animating this without restraint. Quite disappointing when this is only streamed in low resolution though. Kugimiya Rie plays the lead role.
Shin Sekai Yori
Adaptation of a highly-acclaimed sci-fi light novel. A-1 Pictures usually does a good job. Director Ishihama Masashi has been doing animation for a long time and has the distinction of being the director of Kamichu! and Speed Grapher. Hanazawa Kana plays a lead role.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
Aside from the interesting trailer, it's hard to quantify why I like this so much. The characters just seem to have the right chemistry to make this an enjoyable slice-of-life. Brain Base is usually quite good. Tomatsu Haruka plays the lead role.
Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai!
With Kyoto Animation producing this, do you need any other reasons? From the trailer, it seems to blend Haruhi with K-ON! levels of moe and Hyouka's animation. Uchida Maaya (Rea in Sankarea) and Fukuyama Jun play the lead roles.
Hayate the Combat Butler! Can't Take My Eyes Off You
I love the otaku-humour and romance in the series. Kenjiro Hata says he has done over 800 pages of storyboards for this original story arc, so I guess the quality should be OK?
K
The trailer looks good, and GoHands finally has a chance to prove themselves with a more serious show. Mardock Scramble had pretty good over-the-top action animation, which bodes well for K. The cast consists of big names like Sugita Tomokazu, Ono Daisuke, Sawashiro Miyuki, Miyano Mamoru, Nakamura Yuuichi, Sakurai Takahiro, Horie Yui, Kaji Yuki, Fukuyama Jun, and Satou Satomi.
CODE:BREAKER
Kinema Citrus production? Director of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood? Yeah! The trailer looks good too. Okamoto Nobuhiko and Hikasa Youko play the lead roles.
Little Busters!
A lot of people are disappointed with JC Staff taking up production duties instead of KyoAni, but let's not forget what the staff of Toaru Majutsu no Index is capable of with a little more budget. This is a Maeda Jun work, so at the very least it should be good.
Magi
Animated by A-1 Pictures, directed by Masunari Koji (R.O.D, Uchuu Show e Youkoso), this seems to be an interesting interpretation of 1000 Arabian Nights.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
Script writer Okada Mari together with JC Staff reminds me of Toradora. The trailer seems to suggest the same style and approach to this romantic comedy, with perhaps more focus on the drama.
PSYCHO-PASS
Not much is known about this show. But script writer Urobuchi Gen (Madoka Magica)? Wow. The cast is pretty good too, with Hanazawa Kana, Sawashiro Miyuki, Sakurai Takahiro, and Itou Shizuka. Can this series make a huge splash or are they just banking on the Urobuchi Gen Hype? Production I.G. is handling production, so can we expect something on the level of Ghost in the Shell?
ROBOTICS;NOTES
Part of the sci-fi series by 5pb., I'm hoping this will be at least as good as its predecessor, Steins;Gate. The visual novel did not really live up to the fever-pitch hype that 5pb. built up for it, but it still sold well enough and, from what I've heard, was not bad. Production I.G. has a chance this season to really redeem themselves. Isn't it weird though, to see two Noitamina shows in one season (this and Psycho-Pass) by one studio?
